Spectral Engines was founded in Finland in 2014 and is headquartered in Germany. Spectral Engines’ basic technology are MEMS-based spectral sensors, developed as a disruptive approach for highly miniaturised and inexpensive detectors.

In 2017, series production readiness was achieved and supplemented by an independent, highly innovative solution for Cloud-based data processing and a corresponding platform for machine learning. Spectral Engines is thus able to offer customers the entire spectrum of the value chain, from the spectral sensor to the final application device in a cost-effective way. In addition, the company’s own systems for mobile applications with accompanying mobile apps are being launched on the market under a new brand, with the aim of offering them to a broad customer base in the future, on a rental or “pay per use” basis.

The main target markets of Spectral Engines are industrial applications (smart industry), applications in agriculture (smart agriculture) and applications in the household appliance market (white appliances, and the smart home). The ability to produce miniaturised spectrometers in large quantities in a very cost-effective way opens up a large number of new sales markets and applications, particularly in the very broadly diversified consumer environment.

The main sales markets currently lie in the USA, Europe and China. A network of distributors and the company’s own branch offices is being built up and constantly expanded.
